The Video Killed the Radio Star:

Lyrics:

I heard you on the wireless back in fifty two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through
Oh a oh
They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine on new technology
And now I understand the problems you can see
Oh a oh
I met your children
Oh a oh
What did you tell them?
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Pictures came and broke your heart
Oh, a, a, a, oh
And now we meet in an abandoned studio
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago
And you remember the jingles used to go
Oh-a oh
You were the first one
Oh-a oh
You were the last one
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone to far
Oh-a-aho oh
Oh-a-aho oh
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone too far
Pictures came and broke your heart
Put down the blame on VCR
Oh, you are a radio star
You are a radio star
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star

History:

` The Video Killed The Radio Star was the very first video aired by MTV on August 1, 1981 at 12:01 am. This song was written by Trevor Horn and Bruce Woolley. He wrote this song after reading a science fiction story about an opera singer in a world without sound.  Since the song was only aired on MTV station this was the rise to sell albums. The meaning of this song is that people could enjoy not only the audio aspect of the music, but a visual medium as well. The lyrics of this song focus on the passing of the 50's and60's, where many stars were created through radio programing. when Bruce Woolley wrote “They took the credit for your second symphony. Rewritten by machine on new technology, and now I understand the problems you can see.” This verse infers that “they”, being television, stole the primary revenue that radio stations needed to operate. Woolley suggests that television, combining audio and visual rhetoric, made radio stations more obsolete and unneeded because T.V. had all the old technology the radio had and more. This created the problem that Woolley popularly refers to as how “video killed the radio star”. Since radio stations were no longer making as much revenue as before television began its big boom, many radio stations did not have the money to operate and as a result, the demise of so-say the “radio star” began. Everything Science Knows About Reading on Screens   This article talks about the shift from paper to screens. As stated in the article, "It's left many wondering what we've lost or gained in the shift and a handful of scientists are trying to figure out the answer". This question is left unknown because of the different types of media and the person's preference. Studies show that many people who read online scan through the passage rather than actually reading the material. Studies show that many people who read off paper focus better rather than reading on a device. When reading on a device you are able to multi-task but when you are reading off of a paper its harder to multi-task which makes it easier to focus. Scanning through passages is called nonlinear reading. Nonlinear reading can hurt you when you have to do deep research or read a passage in depth.  So basically, there are pros and cons when using a screen vs. using paper when performing cognitive
